Churros

Hey guys! I am back in Mexico, and I am here to show you some more treats from Mexico. This time I will show you the churro. This treat is making its way to the United States, but the ones I have had aren't as good as the ones that we get in Mexico.

Today is my last day in Mexico until Christmas time, so I won't be adding any new videos until the end of December and the first of January. Here is a list of some of the videos that I hope to be able to share with you:

  • Elote/Esquites

  • Bullfight Part 2 (Pablo Hermoso De Mendoza)
If anybody has any requests, please leave comments here and I will do my best to make it happen.

Chapulines (Crickets)

I put WHAT in my mouth? Yep, you heard me right, I ate some crickets. Chapulines (crickets) are considered to be comfort food for some people in some parts of the world. I have definitely spoken to people on both sides of the fence. It seems to be one of those things that you either like or don't like. I haven't found anybody who said, "Well, they're OK. I could take 'em or leave 'em."

You'll have to make that decision on your own. If you don't know where to get some, just give a little whistle and I will help you find some.

Gorditas de La Villa

Gorditas de La Villa are perfectly sweetened little pancakes that are cooked on a little griddle while you watch. They are tasty, inexpensive, and just plain fun to eat. If you walk past a lady cooking these treats, drop 15 pesos and enjoy yourself.

Bullfight - Corrida de Toros

This is another long video, but this subject needs a little more time to show. Most people do not associate Mexico with bullfighting, however, the largest bullfighting arena is in Mexico City. Although this bullfight is not during the regular season, and is considered to be a minor league version of a bullfight, it was still super interesting to me and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I can't wait until I can see another bullfight, hopefully during the regular season in October and November.

Unfortunately, while I was recording the bullfight my main camera ran out of battery and my secondary camera wasn't as good, so I didn't get a lot of usable footage of the bullfighters. It is still an entertaining video to watch, and it is a good representation of one of the treats of Mexico.

The Mexican Sweet Bread - La Concha

This one was not originally intended to be a post to the blog. It is not the short format that I like for video blog postings. However, it is super interesting to see how the Mexican sweet bread, the Concha, is made. Alicia and I were invited by the owner of a panaderia (bakery) to watch (at 5:00a) how Conchas were made. When we got there we were excited to learn that we were actually going to make them ourselves. I couldn't pass up this opportunity to make a little video about our experience there.

Tacos al Pastor

OK, so I am a HUGE fan of Tex-Mex crunchy tacos, but have you ever wondered what a real Mexican taco is like? My favorite is Tacos al Pastor. Watch the video to see what the real deal looks like.

Dori-Loco

What is so crazy about Doritos? Well, you'll see. I discovered this treat from Mexico in the town of Tequisquiapan. You won't believe what goes into one of these thing. Watch the video to find out.
